Start your engines - a new go-karting track has opened its doors in Farnborough .

TeamSport, Europe’s largest go-kart provider, launched the £1.2 million indoor go-kart track in Invincible Road on Thursday (October 8).

The circuit consists of 800 metres of track, split over two levels.

It has an 18-kart capacity and can host parties, team building and function days and also has a track-side viewing gallery, party room and snack bar called Fuel.

The karts are electric rather than petrol, making them faster, and are available for both adults and children.

Participants are provided with race suits and get a full safety briefing and instructions in a separate conference room before hitting the track.

Ahead of the launch, a preview night was held on Wednesday (October 7), where the ribbon was cut by the mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Martin Tennant, before councillors tested the track.

Students from Farnborough Sixth Form College were also invited to race.

The centre replaces the former Royal Mail sorting office in Invincible Road, which has been vacant for almost three years .

Its arrival has been long awaited after a lengthy planning process.

The scheme was granted permission by Rushmoor Borough Council councillors last September, despite a recommendation by the council’s own officials to turn down the plans.

An unusual form of permission was given, specifically to TeamSport, and specifying that if the company vacates the building it is to be marketed for industrial use again.

Dom Gaynor, managing director of TeamSport, said: “I’m really pleased it is finally opening, it’s been a long time coming and there was a lengthy process getting the team on site and getting the building work done but I am delighted it is now complete.

“It is the perfect time for us to open as this is our busy season in the line up to Christmas parties.

“We are glad to be providing a new racing experience for people in Farnborough.”

Councillor, Sue Carter, the cabinet member for leisure and youth at Rushmoor Borough Council, said: “The centre is great for the area.

“The quality is amazing and I think what they have done with the site is marvellous, I hope people will use it.”

TeamSport previously had a track open in Lyon Way, Frimley, but the business was forced to vacate as the building was closed to be redeveloped.

Bookings are now being taken at the
