A FARNBOROUGH woman touched by a friend’s battle with leukaemia needs Mail readers’ help to make a difference.

Jennifer Wheatley, 34, of Elmgrove Road, has set herself the task of organising a fundraising event in aid of Challenging Leukaemia in Children (CLIC).

Jennifer said: “A girl I worked with died from leukaemia last year. She got very ill quite quickly after being diagnosed, so that was one reason for doing it.

“We have also got two young children ourselves and we just couldn’t imagine what it is like to be told your child has leukaemia and I think the chartity does a lot of work with the families and parents of children who are ill.”

The event is being held on Sunday March 23 in support of husband Iain, 31, who will be raising money for CLIC by taking part in the London Marathon this April.

They hope to raise £1,200 between them.

The event will take place at Farnborough Recreation Centre and Jennifer has put together a programme of fitness classes to be held during the afternoon.

Centre staff have been enlisted to help with the classes, which will start at 1pm.

The event gets under way with line dancing and indoor cycling classes.

At 1.30pm there will be an aerobics class and a beginners’ step class, followed by kick and punch boxercise and a ‘tums and bums’ lesson at 2pm.

From 2.45pm circuit training and Salsacise classes are on the agenda and finally, at 3.30pm, body pump and stretch and tone classes.

Each class will cost £3, or £12 for several classes.

Jennifer added: “I want to get as many people as we can and raise as much money as we can. I would just like to see some really full classes.”

Classes are limited to 30 people, so places should be booked in advance.
