THE Principal of the Sixth Form College, Farnborough, has been appointed to a government working party to discuss changes to the exam system.

Dr John Guy, who has been a strong advocate of the new A -levels, has been invited to speak on the developments at the college.

The group, to be chaired by Mike Tomlinson, will examine how developments in education and assessment can contribute to the successful teaching of 14-19 year olds.

As he made the announcement last week, David Miliband, Minister for School Standards, said: “I am delighted to announce these appointments.

“The new members bring with them invaluable experience of 14-19 education and training, in schools, sixth form colleges and FE colleges.”

Dr Guy expressed his delight at the appointment, saying: “The role of assessing the achievements of young people has come under close scrutiny recently.

“There is now a real opportunity to produce a more coherent structure which recognises and rewards the strengths of young people.”
