OWNERS of laptop computers are being warned to be on their guard when visiting pubs in the Star area.

The police alert follows a spate of laptop thefts from cars parked outside pubs, especially in and around Yateley.

A police spokesman said: "The best advice is for people to take the computers into the pubs with them. Some of the thefts have been from car boots because the criminals have been keeping watch on the car park."

He added that criminals appeared to be lying in wait for businessmen as they stopped off for a drink on their way home.

In many cases laptops were left on the back seat, but using the boot, wasn't the answer either.
