THE Blackwater Valley towns will be left without a single cinema this summer as both the ABC in Aldershot and Camberley's Robins are to close.
Now local cinemagoers will have to travel miles to places like Guildford, Basingstoke or Bracknell if they want to see the latest blockbusters.
Back in the Sixties Rushmoor alone had half a dozen cinemas. Now the 70-year-old Robins is to close its doors for the last time on Thursday, May 15, while Aldershot's last survivor follows on July 10.
Dale Ballentine, who took over as Robins' manager in January after being transferred from another Robins that closed down in Durham, told the Star on Tuesday: "We are all devastated.
"We have a lot of regulars, many of them elderly, or teenagers who will not have the money to pay bus or train fares to other towns and then pay several times what we are charging to get into a cinema."
