Liberal Democrats in Crowthorne and Sandhurst have stepped up the campaign against closing Sandhurst's Coffee Spot.

They hope to press Bracknell Forest Borough Council to withdraw its support for the plan at its next meeting on Wednesday, November 21.

Sandhurst Town Council wants to close the popular café to provide a new drop-in centre in the Memorial Park, Yorktown Road.

A statement to be made at the meeting has been submitted by Lib Dem chairman Ray Earwicker, drawing attention to the lack of public support for the project in Sandhurst.

Last week, residents voiced their opposition to the youth centre at a meeting of Sandhurst Town Council.

Sandhurst mayor Peter North maintains the Coffee Spot was originally intended as a youth drop-in centre, not a café.

If the borough council's planning committee gives the go-ahead for the centre, work could begin early next year.
