PEOPLE from across the News area are celebrating being named in the New Year Honours List.
Army personnel, industry workers and political figures have been recognised with OBEs and MBEs.
Keith Beattie, a chief engineer who works for London Underground and lives in Farnham, has been appointed an OBE for services to safety.
Former Rushmoor councillor, John Debenham, has been made an MBE for services to the community.
It is a fitting end to the year for Mr Debenham, who was made an honorary Alderman in November in appreciation for 41 years of service.
He was mayor of the borough from 1974 to 1976, and represented the Knellwood ward from 1973 until he stepped down earlier this year.
He said that the honour came as quite a shock: "I am very pleased with this award and I hope that it reflects on the charitable organisations I am associated with, because without those structures none of this would have been possible."
The following have als0 been appointed MBEs:
Farnham residents, Margaret Maxwell, for services to equestrian sport, and Valerie Hoppe for services to music.
Maj Stuart Paterson of the Royal Army Medical Corps for services as physiotherapist to Aldershot Garrison.
John Childs, a British executive overseas who lives near Farnham, for services to Eastern Europe.
