A YOUNG Fleet woman will soon get some idea of what it's like to climb Everest - without setting foot on the world's most famous mountain.
Lorraine Bowden and five friends aim to reach the "peak" by walking 11 times up Guys Hospital tower in London on November 2.
The organisers have estimated that by the time the team has finished scaling the tower's 750 steps, they will have climbed more than 21,000ft - the height of Everest.
Twenty-five-year-old Lorraine, a technical author, of The Cedars, Fleet, is currently seeking companies to sponsor her for the event. She hopes it will raise a sizeable sum towards the £3,300 she needs to pay for ten weeks of voluntary work in Namibia (ring 01252 626373 to help).
