A HOOK firm has shed pounds to pile on the pounds for charity.

Stent Foundations Ltd of Osborn Way held a slimming contest with 44 people from across the firm's offices taking part.

Southern area director Mark Kliner won the lightweight division, achieving the aim of losing 3.25% of his body weight, and has donated the £440 raised to Cancer Research UK.

He said: "I never find slimming easy but when you give yourself a manageable target and an opportunity of supporting such a worthwhile charity it is not such an onerous task."

Jan Pickett, Helen McNair and Sharon Cooper organised the competition, which netted £880 for charity.

Jan, operations account assistant, said: "I was really pleased when Mark Kliner chose Cancer Research UK as his charity, as my husband has cancer."

Tom Schofield, rail operations manager for Stent, said: "The managers and staff at Stent are pleased to support Cancer Research UK because it is a subject close to the hearts of many of us here. We lost a valued member of staff to cancer last year."
