Two women were rushed to hospital this week following a machete attack in a Farnborough fish and chip shop.

The attack, which happened around 9pm on Tuesday in the Fish Bar on Peabody Road, is believed to have been the result of a domestic dispute.

Police said one of the women, 41, underwent surgery at Frimley Park Hospital on Wednesday morning after suffering life-threatening head injuries and cuts to her hands.

The other woman, 49, was also treated there for less serious injuries.

A 47-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm.

The police say they recovered a knife from the scene.

Asked about the man in custody Detective Sergeant Ray Massie said: "He's helping us with our inquiries."

The officer handling the case, Det Con Steve Mellish, Aldershot CID, appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who was in the shop or the High Street and Peabody Road area of Farnborough between 8.30 and 9pm on Tuesday to contact Aldershot Police on 0845 0454545.
