Man charged with rape after young woman attacked

The 31-year-old suspect appeared in court on Wednesday after a woman aged 21 was the victim of a serious sex assault last month

A man has been charged with rape after a young woman was attacked in Aldershot.

Adel Ahmed Badawy, 31, from Birchett Road in the town, appeared in court on Wednesday accused of two counts of rape.

Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Dennis said: "These charges are in relation to a single incident involving the same victim.

"Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident continues.

“If you have any information which you think may assist us with our enquiries, please contact the Op Lysander team as soon as possible.”

A 21-year-old woman was the victim of a serious sex assault in the early hours of Saturday May 24.

Mr Badawy appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court and was remanded in custody to appear at Winchester Crown Court on June 25.
