A large emergency services presence was seen in Fleet on Thursday morning after a man collapsed on a footbridge.

Police and the ambulance service were called when the man was found lying unconscious on the bridge linking the town centre with the Elvetham Heath estate.

One resident reported police having "swamped" the estate, but Hampshire Constabulary said the incident was not being treated as suspicious as the man was in poor health and had collapsed.

Police cars, vans and three ambulances arrived at the scene at around 11am and the incident was dealt with by 12.45pm.

The man, understood to be in his 70s, was taken by ambulance to hospital.

The police presence was said to have been largely a precautionary measure until the nature of the incident had been confirmed.
