Man seriously injured after being hit by car on New Year's Day

A 42-year-old man suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in Church Crookham at around 3am on January 1

A man suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a car in Church Crookham in the early hours of New Year's Day.

The 42-year-old man, from Fleet, was walking along Reading Road South when he was hit by a Vauxhall Astra at around 2.50am on January 1.

He was taken to Southampton General Hospital with head and leg injuries which were said to be serious but 'not life threatening'.

The driver, a 57-year-old man from Fleet, was uninjured.

The road was closed to allow police officers to investigate the scene and was opened later on in the morning.

An appeal for information has been launched and Hampshire Constabulary would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle or pedestrian prior to it.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Whitchurch Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting Operation Populus.
