RUSHMOOR'S Cabinet has approved a £5.4m programme to fund local housing associations to provide new affordable homes this year.

The programme is complemented by a further £1.3m from the Housing Corporation and will produce 130 homes.

Additional Government funding has also been secured with Thames Valley Housing Association to help key workers buy their own homes.

Coun. David Welch, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Community, said: "We consider affordable housing to be a high priority for the council and we are committed to helping as many people as possible to rent or buy an affordable home of their own. The way to do this is by making our investment in housing associations a priority to achieve our ambitious programme."
