POLICE have charged a man with murder after a 26-year soldier was killed when he was hit by car in Aldershot on Saturday night.
Lance Corporal Christopher Vickers, of the Shropshire-based 2Bn Prince of Wales’s Royal Regiment, died after he was in collision with a BMW in front of a crowd of people gathered in North Lane.
Two people from Aldershot were arrested on Saturday night in connection with this investigation.
A 28-year-old woman has been bailed pending further inquiries, while a 35-year-old man was charged with the soldier's murder.
Adrian Johnston, of High Street, Aldershot, appeared before magistrates on Tuesday.
He was remanded in custody until Monday, March 31 when he will appear before Winchester Crown Court.
On Monday L/Cpl Vickers’ family issued a statement.
His parents John and Sandra said: “He was a much loved son and we are heartbroken that this should happen as his future was developing so well.
“He had just earned promotion and was doing well in his chosen career.
“He was at home this weekend to celebrate that promotion with his family and friends.
“His life has tragically been cut short for no apparent reason and we are devastated.”
