A BRAVE shop owner received hospital treatment after grappling with a thief at his Mytchett supermarket.

He was treated for a split lip and facial cuts at Frimley Park Hospital following the incident at Mytchett Stores.

The drama started when the well built thief entered the shop and asked for a packet of Rizla cigarette papers.

As the owner's back was turned, the villain stretched over and grabbed £300 in cash from the till.

During the ensuing struggle the pair fell to the floor where the thug got the upper hand and managed to break free.

As he ran from the shop he grabbed five packets of cigarettes.

The robber is white, 5ft 10in tall and in his mid-30s. He has short light coloured hair, and he was wearing a blue fleece and light blue denim jeans.

Police, who have not released the shop owner's name, have appealed for information from anyone who was in Mytchett Road at 6.20pm on December 23, when the incident happened.
