Two local children helped launch the new look Co-op store which has just opened in Ash.

Grace Gilbert (7) and Alan Robinson (10 performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch the village's new shop, which takes over from Alldays. The children are from Ash Walsh Junior School, which was presented with a camcorder to mark the occasion. The Co-op has spent £250,000 refurbishing the store.

Said store manager Andy Meikle: "We are delighted our local school is playing a central role in the relaunch of our store."

The 600-shop Alldays chain was acquired by the consumer-owned Co-op last October. Ash is one of the first shops to be relaunched.

The Co-op Divi scheme means shoppers get cash back, with some funds going to local charities.
