A FORMER high-kicking pantomime dancer is Surrey Heath's new Mayor.
Coun. Mrs Andree Neighbour became its 30th Mayor at the council's annual meeting last Wednesday.
Now she prefers the more genteel pastime of flower arranging!
First elected to the council in 1995 to represent the town ward, Coun. Mrs Neighbour has served on a number of committees, including Community, Housing, Leisure, Resources and Policy Committees.
She is married to Maurice, who will be her Mayor's Escort. Two sons, James and Michael, and four grandchildren, Alison (8), Olivia (7), Alexander (5) and Emily Grace (1) complete the family line up.
Coun. Mrs Neighbour was born on May 3, 1940 in Edwinstow, near Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, and came to Camberley in 1960 when her parents bought a property on the area, taking up permanent residence herself in 1986.
Trained as a dancer, she worked in summer seaside seasons and pantomimes, together with a few television appearances.
Having given up her career to look after her young family, upon returning to work Mrs Neighbour became an estate agent.
Coun. Mrs Neighbour is a member of the Frimley and Camberley Art Society, and the Frimley Flower Club; her interests include tapestry, embroidery, water-colour painting, gardening, flower arranging, cooking, entertaining and travel. She is also a school governor.
For her charity appeal this year, she plans to raise funds for Carwarden House School Swimming Pool Appeal.
This year's Deputy Mayor is Coun. David Dodd, who has served on the council since 1999.
