SANDHURST has a new Mayor. She is Coun. Audrey Shephard, who has been Deputy Mayor for the past two years. She told the town council on Thursday that she regarded it as a great privilege and would do her best to serve the people of Sandhurst.

The new Mayor said she was pleased to be in office during the Queen's Golden Jubilee year. She revealed that when she returned to the council a few years ago after a period out of office she had said: "I'd like to keep a low profile."

Paying tribute to the retiring Mayor, Coun. Peter North, she praised his hard work and said many of the things now benefiting the town arose from his vision and ideas.

Coun. North has a new post with Bracknell Forest Borough Council where he is now executive member for health and safety. He will be specialising in crime issues.

Other town council appointments are: Deputy Mayor- Coun. Jean Bettison; Planning -Chairman Coun. Bob Piggin, Vice- Chairman Coun. Mike Brossard; Environment - Chairman Coun. Ray Simonds, Vice-Chairman Coun. Dorothy Pearce; Leisure - Chairman Coun. Nick Skinner, Vice-Chairman Coun. Peter North; and Strategy Chairman Coun Nick Allen, Vice-Chairman Coun. Jean Bettison.
