RUSHMOOR'S new Mayor, Coun. Brian Jupp, got out the ceremonial scissors and cut the ribbon to open the brand new Ively Road link between Kennels Lane, Farnborough, and Norris Bridge.
The new road, opened two months ahead of schedule, allows QinetiQ, the oddly named descendant of the Royal Aircraft Establishment, to integrate Cody Technology Park, which houses its HQ.
It is part of a much larger £10m project including a new roundabout on Kennels Lane and the Norris Bridge gyratory system. That opened last August and it is claimed to be a great success with no reported accidents at what used to be a safety blackspot.
QinetiQ has worked with English Nature to encourage the return of heathland to the area with half a million pounds being spent on planting indigenous trees and reintroducing local heathers.
In March the MOD announced that it was looking for a strategic partner to invest in QinetiQ as a stepping stone to an eventual flotation.
