I WAS pleased to see a copy of the previous week's Star being used as one of the props in the wonderful pantomime staged by Priory Players at Frimley Parish Hall.

So I thought I would return the compliment by putting in a word for this excellent local drama group and others like them who are not sufficiently appreciated by the local powers that be.

I cannot be alone in thinking that local councils who spend vast amounts of our money on civic halls could make these available to local community drama groups on a very nominal rent basis and they could also use their paid spin doctors to promote the shows.

This would be far better than the current situation where shows at the civic venues often feature people who had a pop hit or two in the sixties or seventies or who appeared on television in black and white days. A bit of nostalgia is all very well, but when there is such talent within our local communities it should be encouraged.

The highly original pantomime was written by Priory stalwart Richard Jackman and its excellent cast was augmented by youngsters from Frimley Youth Theatre and Frimley Dance Studio. The next play, "Perfect Wedding", is on March 6-8 - contact the box office on 01276 678779 to find out more.
