A POLICE officer was left unconscious after being struck by a car which failed to stop at Aldershot.
PC Mike Spencer, 27, lay in Camp Farm Road for half-an-hour before he was found by another passing motorist.
He was taken to Frimley Park Hospital where he had 20 stitches inserted in a deep gash to his arm.
PC Spencer also suffered cuts and bruises to his body, cuts to his face and severe bruising to his legs.
The incident happened when he pulled over a dark blue Ford Orion as part of a routine stop check at 9.30pm last Thursday.
As he was walking around the front of the vehicle the driver accelerated, knocking him to the ground.
Detective Sergeant Dave Powell, of Aldershot CID, appealed for help in tracing the dark blue Orion and the driver.
"The vehicle may have been abandoned or taken to a garage or scrap yard," he said.
Witnesses should telephone Aldershot CID on 0845 045 45 45, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where calls are treated anonymously.
As the Star went to press of Wednesday, Hampshire police spokesman Kevin Briscoe said that PC Spencer is still suffering from concussion, and is resting at home.
