PEACE talks between Sandhurst Town Council and local residents' associations have led to an agreement over the controversial covenant on part of the Memorial Park and to a pledge to hold regular liaison meetings.

At Thursday's town council meeting Coun. Paul Bettison got unanimous support for a resolution that the spirit of the original covenant would always guide the council and that it would consult with residents over any issues that arose. This was despite a legal view that the covenant is unenforceable as the trustees are long dead.

Members also agreed that as soon as possible after the May elections council representatives would meet quarterly with residents' associations.
