A new rose named Pearl has been unveiled at Hampton Court Flower Show and there to launch it was a Farnborough couple who are celebrating their pearl (thirtieth) wedding anniversary.
Brenda and Colin Southon, who live in Queens Road, met TV garden personality Rachel de Thame and posed for photographers with the new rose.
Colin is a BT engineer and Brenda works as an administration manager. They were married in Aldershot on July 8, 1972.
The new rose was bred by Mattocks Roses, a firm owned by Notcutts Ltd and to present it to the world they searched for a pearl wedding couple - and found the Southons, who were delighted to be asked to help introduce Rose Pearl to the world.
The new rose has creamy pink flowers which look almost like a camellia. Said to be extremely disease resistant and with a delightful fragrance, it grows into a bush about three feet high.
It is available at all 13 Notcutts garden centres.
