PROTESTERS have lost their last ditch battle to save Ash Vale Station post office from closure.

Post Office bosses have brushed aside villagers' protests and decided to shut the branch on July 10. Drew McBride, Post Office Ltd's area chief, said on Monday: "We fully appreciate the concerns expressed by those who let us have their views."But the company had to look at the broader picture rather than the viability of an individual branch. Mr McBride said: "Ash Vale Station post office customers will still have reasonable access to post office services."The outgoing sub-postmaster, who he said wants to leave, will receive compensation from a £270-million fund to cover such closures. He added that there were two post offices within a mile of the closing branch.
