A ROBBER fled empty-handed after threatening an elderly postmaster with a gun at Ash Vale post office.

The man, wearing a white baseball cap, burst into the shop at 12.20pm last Thursday and produced a silver handgun.

He was carrying a white plastic bag and confronted the postmaster, who refused to hand over any money.

The thief ran from the shop and disappeared in the direction of the Basingstoke Canal.

He is described as white, in his early 30s, 5ft 7in to 5ft 9in tall and clean shaven. He was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt.

The post office is situated behind the rear of Ash Vale railway station, and police have appealed for information from anyone who may have seen the villain loitering in the area.

Witnesses should contact Detective Constable Ben Lee at Guildford CID on 01483 531111.
