MORE than 100 top rally crews will be in the Aldershot area this weekend for the Michelin South of England Tempest stages. The two-day event starts in Aldershot town centre at 10 am on Saturday and is centred on Rushmoor Arena.
It will use areas of Bramshill, Warren Heath, Eelmoor Plain and Longmoor. The organisers are still discussing with police the possibility of using an area at Yateley Forest some three quarters of a mile from the Milly Dowler murder search scene. If the go-ahead is given that will take place without spectators.
Donations will in any event be made to the Milly Dowler Fund.
Among the entries are two local crews. Nick Foster of Odiham and co-driver Paul Faraday from Fleet will be aiming for a top ten finish. They were overall runners-up last year when the event was lower key. Also competing will be Michael Stepton from Camberley and co-driver Peter West. Top drivers include former Grand Prix ace Mark Blundell.
Anyone planning to visit should note that a whopping £10 charge is being made for parking at Rushmoor Arena.
