SURREY Heath Council claimed on Tuesday that no fewer than 19 development companies have shown an interest in developing the long blighted council owned land west of Camberley's Park Street.

The council's Town Centre Working Party met on Monday and Tuesday to draw up a shortlist and this will be presented to a full council meeting next Thursday (20), which will be held in secret.

The council leader, Coun. Moira Gibson, declared: "I am extremely heartened by the very strong interest that is being shown in this opportunity to redevelop this prime town centre site."

Shortlisted firms will be asked to make formal and detailed submissions to the council by next March when exhibitions will be staged throughout the borough to gauge public reaction.
