Camberley Sea Cadets distinguished themselves in the group's national rowing finals. A team of five boys aged 13 to 15 faced six gruelling races in the finals at Birmingham and came seventh in the country although they were one of the youngest teams.

The five were: Tom Pryor (15), from Cove School; Derrick Hood (15), Kings International College; Marcus Carmichael (13), Kings; William Edge, (13), who was cox, Salesian College; and Martin Charnley (14), Yateley School.

Lt Kevin Milligan and Chief Petty Officer Barry Mitchell were in a team which won the cup in the staff race. The last time that the southern area won the cup was in 1990.
