Sandhurst Day centre is celebrating the delivery of a new minibus provided by Help the Aged's Senior Mobility campaign (see picture right).

It is Senior Mobility's 1,500th minibus.

The bus, which takes wheelchairs, will be used to carry about 140 people to and from the centre each week.

VAT of £6000 was waived on the purchase and funding came from: the borough council (£20,000); Berkshire Help the Aged (£5000) and the day centre support group (£5000).

The bus will also be used for trips to shops, garden centres and days out. Said Graham Lale, Senior Mobility Manager: "The UK's population is getting older. People are living longer and keeping mobile and in touch with the social activities in their community is crucial."
