THE new golfing season at Southwood Golf Course, Cove, was launched in style on Sunday with John Pippard, the new club captain, driving a "golden" ball down the first fairway to announce the captain's charity of the year - Kids Rushmoor.
Said John: "The drive-in takes place every year to introduce the new ladies' and men's captains to the club members and announce the charity. This year the new ladies' captain is Sue Pettifor.
"The golden ball was used to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee and landed next to the ball of Mrs Beryl Creak, who won a gold sovereign donated by Coun Dave Thomas."
The drive-in raised over £400 for Kids Rushmoor, a charity supporting special needs children and their families. Mrs Sue Dyer and her two children, Samantha and Josephine, who attended the special needs playscheme last summer, were guests at the launch.
Kids Rushmoor playschemes provide activities designed to challenge children.
Parents can leave their children knowing that they will be happy in an environment that is safe and secure.
