Sledgehammer gang smash shop window in cigarettes raid

Three masked men also attacked a car which was being driven past the Londis store in Farnborough

Thousands of pounds of cigarettes were stolen in a sledgehammer raid at a convenience store in Farnborough.

Police are investigating the break-in at the Londis shop in Gifford Drive in the early hours of Sunday.

Three masked men, all described as white, smashed the shop window before taking stock from behind the counter.

A passing car was pulled over at the scene but the robbers then attacked it with the sledgehammer as well. The driver and his passengers were unharmed.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: “This was a carefully planned burglary which took less than five minutes and the offenders seemed to know exactly where to go in the shop to find the cigarettes and tobacco.

“The convenience store is in a residential area and a number of people may have heard or seen the burglary.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC Faltermeyer at Aldershot police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
