DEMOLITION workers have almost flattened the former Solartron factory site at Farnborough.
Buildings where scores of people once worked are being bulldozed in double quick time.
The 16-acre site is being cleared to make way for a huge B & Q superstore and garden centre employing 50-60 staff.
J. Sainsbury Developments, which bought the site for £19-million two years ago, hopes that building work will start this summer.
The scheme, which includes 30 two-bedroom flats, has been given the blessing of Rushmoor Council planners.
And the Government, which was asked for its views on the land's change of the use, has given the green light.
Final details are expected to be rubber stamped by the council's development control committee later this month.
The new 160,000 sq ft store will replace the B & Q Warehouse on the other side of the road.
Council planning chiefs say the superstore will provide a welcome boost to the nearby town centre.
They believe that, by attracting large numbers of shoppers, it will help Farnborough to compete with shopping centres outside the borough.
