A HARTLEY Wintney woman has proved that age is no barrier to learning by scooping a prestigious award.

For 52-year-old Janet Marshall has won the Student of the Year award for holistic therapies after completing a full-time course at Basingstoke College of Technology.

"It was a very challenging and interesting course and I met a lot of diverse people on it," she said.

"I was so surprised when they told me I had won the award but I was very happy to hold my own on the course. Sometimes people lose their confidence when they get to middle age but they shouldn't because they have still got a lot to offer."

Janet is now a fellow of The International Council of Holistic Therapists — an organisation involved in setting and maintaining standards for the industry — and has set up a treatment room in her picturesque 200-year-old cottage in London Road, Phoenix Green.

"It's always been a hobby of mine and I do quite like looking after people so the course seemed ideal," said Janet, who has helped her husband run Hart Carpets at Hartley Wintney for the last 30 years.

"I believe people should relax more than ever now because the modern lifestyle is so very hectic."
