Domino's Pizza wants to open for two more hours every day
A takeaway pizza franchise in Farnborough could be granted later opening hours.
Domino’s Pizza takeaway in the town centre has applied to extend its opening hours until 1am.
The premises in Victoria Road currently opens until 11pm.
The agent applying on behalf of Domino’s argues that the new hours will be beneficial to the local economy as it will create new jobs and enhance the vitality of the area.
But Mark Staplehurst, a member of Rushmoor Borough Council and Hampshire County Council representing Farnborugh, said: "I can’t see that it will create any more jobs just by keeping it open for a couple more hours.”
He pointed out that there was already competition on that road from other delivery places such as Papa Johns and KFC.
In the application, Domino’s said the later time will be more convenient for shift workers and enhance the town’s evening leisure and entertainment.
Many of the other takeaway services in Victoria Road close at 11pm while a Wetherspoon pub opens until midnight in the week.
As the facility is a takeaway and delivery service not a restaurant, Cllr Stapleton said if planning permission is granted it isn’t likely to have much of an impact on the town.
He said: “Generally if people go there they park up, grab their pizza and go. Most people are tucked up in bed at that time so I doubt Domino's will get many more customers.”
A decision is due to be made by Rushmoor's planning committee by November.
