SANDHURST'S innovative Clean Team has had a cash boost from Bracknell Forest Council to help them continue keeping the streets of Sandhurst clean.

The Clean Team was set up in September 2001 as part of Sandhurst Town Council's Sandhurst Pride project to encourage residents to take pride in their surroundings. It has gone from strength to strength, highlighting the effects of litter and pollution in the town.

Coun. Mills said: "We are delighted to be able to support the Clean Team initiative and congratulate the town council for their imaginative and effective efforts in dealing with and highlighting the effects of litter and pollution in their area."

The Clean Team started as a six-month experiment and has continued to grow. As well as visiting all the schools in Sandhurst, as part of the Tree of Life Litter Campaign to highlight the environmental effects of litter, the team has employed two staff to litter pick in the shopping centres.

The grant from the borough council is part of a scheme aimed at helping non-profit groups do projects that benefit the area. Applications for help can be made at any time throughout the year and grants are subject to the availability of funding. For more information call the Environment Department on 01344 351400.
