Hart Council has pulled the chain on its decision to close public toilets.

The toilets were due to be closed on April 1, and it was not an April Fool's joke.

But now Coun Stephen Parker, Cabinet Member for Statutory Services, has announced that the council has listened to criticisms and learned from them.

"A number of representations have been made, not least by colleagues in affected wards showing that this proposal lacks public support," he said. "I have listened to the comments from members and residents and I have decided that we will learn from their comments.

"This administration is not afraid to admit if we make a mistake and to speedily correct it."

He said the council would have to find some other way to save money.
