FATHER Phelim Rowland, until recently Senior Roman Catholic Chaplain at 4 Division in Aldershot, has secured one of the top religious posts in the British Army.
The Bishop of the Forces has appointed him Principal Roman Catholic Chaplain and Vicar General to the Army, succeeding Monsignor Kevin Vasey, who died in March.
A military chaplin for 23 years, Father Phelim, 52, was born and educated in London and trained for the priesthood in Ware.
He was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Westminster in May 1975 and appointed assistant priest at Holy Trinity, Brook Green, in Hammersmith.
Father Phelim took over as acting Principal Roman Catholic Chaplain and Vicar General in January 2002 when Monsignor Vasey was taken ill.
