Very Hungry Caterpillar's birthday celebrated in park

Children and adults celebrate the timeless character who ate strawberries, chocolate cake and salami

Children celebrated the Very Hungry Caterpillar Day in Aldershot Park

Adults and toddlers in the Farnham, Aldershot & District NCT turned up to Aldershot Park on Thursday March 20 to celebrate the 45th birthday of the classic children's book The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

The centre-piece of the afternoon's activities was a craft session where the children made a giant replica of the caterpillar.

There was also a 'very hungry trail', where they hunted in for giant food pieces in the park, and also a reading of the story.

Written and illustrated by American author Eric Carle, more than 37m copies of the book have been sold since its publication in 1969.
