Picture: The scene at the Rising Sun pub in Queen's Road, Aldershot, on Saturday morning shortly after two men stopped their 4x4, jumped out and smashed every window before roaring off.
TWO thugs launched a frenzied attack on a pub in a quiet Aldershot road last Saturday morning.
The pair used a stick and their fists to shatter both windows and the front door of the Rising Sun in Queen's Road.
They spent about two minutes laying into the pub before speeding off in a red Jeep-type vehicle.
The licensee was in bed asleep in his flat above the pub when the attack happened at about 8.30am.
He raced downstairs, but got only a glimpse of the pair as they fled to their vehicle.
The licensee, who declined to give his name, was reluctant to comment about the incident on Monday.
He would only say: "We don't normally have any trouble here."
After the incident the large plate glass windows and doors were boarded up with the message "Business as usual" scrawled in blue crayon.
Stunned eyewitnesses have told police that both thugs were white. One was in his late 40s, heavily built and had white hair.
His accomplice was of slim build and in his early 20s.
One suffered a cut hand in the attack and left a trail of blood at the scene.
Police, who are checking local hospitals and health centres to see if the victim received treatment, are baffled by the attack.
PC Shasait Ali, who is heading the inquiry, said: "It's a complete mystery. The licensee has no idea why his pub was picked on.
"It was an unusual time of day for this type of incident, and we think there must have been people walking by who saw it.
"Two minutes is quite a long time for two men to be smashing in windows, especially in broad daylight."
He appealed for information from anyone who was in the area at the time, or who knows the identity of the two men.
Witnesses can contact PC Ali at Aldershot police station on 0845 045 45 45.
