WATCHETTS Bowling Club has won the Review Bowls Trophy for the second year running and in the club's second year of entry in the tournament.
The final last Sunday was hosted by Horsell Bowls Club and was between Watchetts and Knaphill - the same clubs that met at last year's final. The final was a cliff-hanger to the final (extra) end with teams on close scores for much of the game.
The final provided an excellent display of top class bowls enjoyed immensely by the good band of spectators who had gone along to Horsell to support the club players.
The Review Bowls Trophy is run on behalf of the Review by Maurice Mayes, who welcomed players and supporters to Horsell Bowling Club, congratulated the finalists and thanked all the clubs for taking part in the competition.
He thanked Horsell president John White for hosting the final and paid tribute to the Review newspaper, a sister paper of the Star, for continuing with the tournament, now in its 65th year.
Review editor Penny Bray congratulated winners and finalists and thanked Horsell club for its hospitality, and the green keeper for his care in preparing the green early in the day for the final.
She thanked Maurice Mayes for his continued support in running the competition for the Review, enabling the tournament to continue and flourish. Penny invited Mr Mayes to present the trophies and he returned the winner's rose bowl to Watchetts, with individual cups for each player, and presented cups to each of the Knaphill players.
