New flats given nod

3/ 7/2008

The green light has been given to a five-flat development in North Camp despite neighbours’ concerns.

Rushmoor Council’s Development Control Committee has granted developers permission to retain a shop and associated parking at 51 Lynchford Road, and build a two-storey rear extension to create five self-contained flats.

The property is a two-storey Victorian building at the end of a terrace of shops, flats and offices.

It currently comprises a lock-up shop on the ground floor and a two-bedroom self-contained flat on the first floor with converted loft space.

A narrow alleyway, called Church Path, runs the length of the building with access to the rear.

Developers Diamond Holdings plan to knock down the rear outbuildings and build a two-storey extension with parking spaces for the five flats, making the shop at the front smaller.

Neighbours at 53 and 55 Lynchford Road objected to the proposals fearing they would overload Church Path, making it impossible for emergency services to obtain access.

They also said there would be loss of light to buildings, with insufficient parking spaces, servicing and refuse storage.

This, they claimed, would pose a hazard to people using Church Path.

However, planners agreed that the proposals would not give rise to any loss of neighbours’ privacy, and that satisfactory bin storage and parking would be provided.
