Wheelchair pensioner hit in unprovoked attack
By Pete Castle22/ 7/2008
A pensioner in a wheelchair was repeatedly punched in the face during an unprovoked attack in a park.
Police described the sustained daylight attack as “despicable” and are now hunting for the man who carried out the assault in Cove Green the Sunday before last (July 13).
The victim, 67-year-old Peter Price, was left with a bruised face and bleeding from a cut ear after the attack.
Mr Price told getHampshire today that he couldn’t understand why he had been attacked while wlaking his dog.
“I am totally shocked,” he said. “I think it was awfully cowardly thing to do. Why should a person run completely out of his way to attack someone?
“I can’t understand how a person like that can be allowed to roam the streets. If he can attack a pensioner on a scooter what will he be doing next? He could be bashing babies in their prams.
“Fifty years ago I was a useful boxer at school, and I could have given him a fair run for his money. It was because of my boxing background that I knew how to take the blows, otherwise I think I could have been in a bad condition.”
Although he decided not to go to hospital, Mr Price was left with a bleeding and ripped earlobe and bruises where the man had landed punches on the side of his head.
Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
The attacker was white, aged between 30 and 40, with short, grade two-length shaved dark hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and dark blue jeans.
The woman who shouted to him was also white, with long blonde hair and wearing a pink top and jeans.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact PC Scott Beney at Aldershot police station on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers free and in confidence on 0800 555 111.
