Investigation into airshow ticket fraud

22/ 7/2008

Police in Farnborough are appealing for airshow visitors to get in touch if they were offered counterfeit tickets to the event.

At about 11am on Saturday, three large men were seen selling a number of tickets at the junction of Osborne Road and Netley Street in North Camp.

Half an hour earlier, two men were stopped at the entrance gate with counterfeit tickets. The men had paid £40 and said they had obtained them from a man selling tickets down the road.

The two men were allowed into the event as management believed they had bought tickets in good faith.

Pc Iain Howard, from Farnborough police station, said: “Around 80,000 people attended Farnborough International Airshow on Saturday and many of those would have walked from the car parks and the station to get to the event.

“Were you offered, or did you buy, any FIAS tickets from anyone selling tickets on the street, or did you see ticket touts in operation?

“It may be that you bought the tickets in good faith and did not realise they were counterfeit. I would ask anyone with any information to contact me in confidence.”

Three men have been arrested and bailed on suspicion of fraud.

Anyone with any information should contact Pc Howard at Farnborough police station on 0845 045 4545, or the Crimestoppers line, free and anonymously, on 0800 555111.
