Heart help at centre

An Aldershot leisure centre has set up a new exercise programme to help heart attack victims return to health and fitness.
Connaught Leisure Centre, on Tongham Road, is offering a Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation programme in its fitness suite.
The programme has been funded by a donation from Hampshire County Councillor, Eric Neal, who is the councillor for Aldershot East and chair of the centre’s management committee.
Councillor Neal said he was keen to see continued development of health and fitness opportunities for cardiac patients in the Heron Wood/North Town area and was “very pleased to make funding available to progress this good work”.
The centre’s Get Active GP referral co-ordinator, Linda Blundell, said: “Having attended a training programme I am looking forward to putting into practice the knowledge I have gained and ensuring that cardiac patients are able to continue their return to fitness by exercising in a safe and effective environment.
In association with Rushmoor Healthy Living, a cardiac rehabilitation circuit class is due to start at the centre in August.
In order to start an exercise programme all cardiac patients must have full medical consent and paperwork from their GP or Cardiac specialist.
