Care home bid for offices

8/ 8/2008

Property developers want to knock down empty offices in Fleet to build a four-storey, 80-bed care home.

An application to build the care home in Fleet Road, with parking for 25 cars and landscaping, has been submitted to Hart District Council by Sanctuary Housing Association, based in Worcester.

Landowners, the Medran Group, have apparently gone down the care home route after consistently failing to let the vacant office units at 125 and 127 to 147 Fleet Road.

In a lettings market report, undertaken by Vail Williams on behalf of Medran and submitted with Sanctuary’s planning application, the over-supply of office buildings in the area is given as the main reason why the 80s-built offices have been hard to let.

The proposal, instead, is to raze the existing buildings, between Westminster Close and Birch Avenue on the opposite side of Fleet Road, and address the apparent shortfall in the provision of care homes in Hart.

It is thought the development would create around 80 jobs.

So far, no objections to the planning application have been made.
