Anger as car park decision looms

Plans for a car wash at a disused car park in Blackwater look likely to be given the green light.

Despite objections from residents, business-owners and councillors, Hart District Council wants to press ahead with the proposals.

The car park, in Green Lane, has been left empty for three years but the council wants to bring in a private contractor to run a car valeting service on the site.

Campaigners have received a letter from the council advising them that officers are likely to recommend the planning committee approve the scheme at its next meeting.

Cheralyn Hill who owns the Bespoke Pilates Studio in Green Lane said: “They haven’t listened to what we are saying about the need for the site to be reinstated as a car park.

“It is unbelievable that they want to grant consent. My business is going to suffer so much because of it.

“It is our right to say we are not happy about this and we are being pushed aside.

“This town is thriving now and the council should be supporting the small businesses, not allowing a car valeting firm to waste water and create lots of noise.”

Councillors will made a decision on the scheme at their meeting on August 13.
