A dog's day out at farm

15/ 8/2008

A fun day of doggy delights was had by all at an inaugural event to celebrate man’s best friend.

Fleet-based dog training firm K9 Matters organised the charity fun day at Stapeley Manor Farm in Odiham.

Hundreds of dogs and their owners attended to take part in the day of activities and fun competitions, which were judged by Hart District Council’s dog warden Lisa Jessup.

In addition to prizes for waggiest tail, best rescue dog, and best trick, one special dog was awarded best in show – a Tibetan terrier called Eddie.

K9 Matters, made up of Marina Timms and Chris Baker, run classes in the Star area.

In addition to socialisation, agility and obedience, the pair train dogs for search and security.

Ms Timms said: “The day was unbelievable, outstanding. It was supposed to be a small local event, and we thought we’d be lucky to hand over £100 to each charity.

“We were able to hand over £300 to each charity.”

She added: “We were rather lean of helpers. If it were not for their hard work, it would not have happened. It was an amazing team effort and I can’t thank them enough.”

Catering company Porky’s, which ran the food stall at the show, donated £130 to the cause.

The charities benefiting from the day are Dogs In Need, the Guildford and District Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue and the Doberman Re-homing Association.
