Swords and axes on sale at shop

An Aldershot town centre shop selling swords, daggers, double-edged axes, sow-on swastikas and throwing knives is an “insult” to the town, shoppers have claimed.

Other items for sale at Aaagh! The Home of Hollywood in the Wellington Centre included imitation firearms, nunchucks, racks of samurai swords and other bladed instruments, prompting fear of a knife crime epidemic in the area.

It follows the removal of coats with built-in knives that were on sale at the Farnborough branch of designer clothing shop TK Maxx by the company two weeks ago.

Shoppers passing Aaagh! - which opened for business on Saturday and also has a branch in Woking - expressed their shock and anger at what it was selling.

Shop owner Matthew Caswell said: “We at Aaagh! Home of Hollywood do not intend to cause offence to anyone in the local community,”

“We are very aware of the concerns raised by members of the general public, and we assure everyone concerned that we are taking responsible measures.

“We currently refuse service to any individual under 18 years of age or who is displaying an improper attitude.

“We assure the general public that we do not intend to sell weapons, but we are involved in the sales of collectable items and memorabilia, and all of our age-restricted legislation items are for the purposes of display only.

“We sincerely apologise to anyone who has been offended by some of our World War Two memorabilia. This stock has been removed as a gesture of our goodwill towards the public.

“We assure the general public that we are a responsible seller or memorabilia and collectable goods, with tried and tested track record.”

I've visited this shop a few times now, and though I was admittedly opposed to it at first passing, having been in and spoken to the friendly staff, I'm put at ease knowing that they are doing their job properly.

Whilst in the shop, two customers attempted to purchase a small blade each, they had ID but they were turned away because of their demeanour.

Well done to the Aaagh stuff for refusing to sell those customers, and with that, I have no cause for concern that they will sell any bladed/dangerous item to anybody under-age or shifty!

Hello to everyone , firstly i would like to state our store does not sell imitation firearms , these are illegal and obviously the writer of this article has not done his homework properly. I would like to help put peoples minds at rest , we have had a store in woking for over a year now without any knife epidemic . We are extremely strict on our over 18 policy and have passed every trading standards test we have been put through with letters to prove it, as we only accept identification we can check under our ultraviolet light. Also The metropolitan police admit knife crime is virtually entirely to do with kitchen knives not decorative items as we sell. Also Our WW2 historical memorabilia covers all the armed forces not just the germans. We would not be able to trade as we do if we did not work fully within the law and were responsible retailers and i hope this article does not spread any unjust fear into the aldershot community.
