Vulcan bomber still grounded at Farnborough

The Vulcan bomber has been grounded at Farnborough Airport for another day after experiencing further technical problems.
The former nuclear bomber had been due to take off at 12.30pm on Tuesday to participate in an Armistice Day flypast over Southampton, but a fault with a transformer meant it was unable to join farewell celebrations as the QEII cruise liner left the port for the final time before becoming a floating hotel in Dubai.
Aircrew said the plane was now due to depart from Farnborough on Wednesday morning and fly to its home at RAF Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire.
The mighty Cold War-era aircraft has been grounded since taking part in the October 16 Samuel Cody celebrations.
Bosses at the Vulcan to the Sky Trust, the charity that oversaw the £7m refurbishment of Vulcan XH558, have warned that without further sponsorship the flight home could be the aircraft’s very last.
The plane needs £135,000 a month to stay in the air, but the credit crunch has led to a shortfall in gifts from donors.
